Why is SEO important for my business?

Did you know that over 93% of online experiences start with a Search Engine? And, that 68% of people only look at page 1 of search results?! Now, there’s two huge reasons why every business needs a SEO strategy!

A website without a SEO strategy is like setting up a bricks and mortar business in the desert. Yes, people may find it if they have GPS coordinates (and are crazy enough to want to go to the desert for some retail therapy), otherwise it would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

Now when I say strategy, I don’t mean a huge bound document of actions that gives you an anxiety attack just thinking about it – I see SEO strategy as a marketing mindset, something that is considered every time you market your business online.

I often say to my clients that there is absolutely no point investing resources into a website unless you plan to ‘look after it’ by ensuring it can be found in search engines. Because having a site that it optimised for search engines is the difference between having a brochure as opposed to a business development manager marketing your products and services online.

So, if you really serious about wanting to generate qualified leads (more ideal customers) and increase sales conversions on your website, then you must invest time and energy into developing and implementing a SEO strategy that works for your business!


How can I increase my google ranking?

So, here’s my attempt at keeping it simple without the overwhelm.

Google’s job is to deliver it’s customers (you and I) with the most relevant information as it relates to our search queries. If it doesn’t do this, then it renders itself useless. To achieve this, Google is continually updating their formula (or in Geeky-SEO terms, ‘Algorithm’) which dictates the way web pages are ranked.

In order to influence these page rankings, there are literally hundreds of activities that web owners can implement, but let’s be honest, who has time? I know I don’t!

But there are a few key things you can keep in mind when you are writing content for your website to have the best chance of increasing your web pages’ search engine rankings, which include:

  • Being authentically you in all of your web page copy
  • Staying on-brand and on topic with all of your content online
  • Creating a consistent amount of evergreen content that is relevant to your product/service, and engaging for your ideal customer
    (we want this content to be shared on Social Media!)
  • Implementing a few easy SEO activities every time you create a new page for your site
    (see below!)
  • Actively encouraging visitation to your website from social media accounts


What are 3 simple things I can do now to help my SEO?

What you need to do, is optimise your website with keywords and phrases that people are actually typing in to search engines to find the products/services you offer.

In order to do this, I’ve listed 3 simple SEO tactics to undertake for every page on your website.

1. Brainstorm and Research Keywords / Phrases for each page on your site

For every single page on your website, brainstorm 1-2 potential keywords or phrases you think people could type in to find your web page.

Once you have your brainstormed list (could be up to 50 potential keywords/phrases if you’ve got a large site), validate your keywords by running them through Google Adword’s Keyword Planner Tool (you’ll need a Google Account to access the tool), which will tell you if people are ‘actually’ typing in those keywords and phrases into search engines.

Once you’ve performed the search, you’ll need to look for are keywords/phrases that are extremely relevant to the content on your specific web pages, and that have a decent number of local monthly searches.

2. Implement your keywords on your web pages.

When you are optimising your site for search engines you need to consider every single page as a potential landing page (entry page) for visitors to your website. This is why, as I mentioned above, you need to ensure that you optimise each page for 1-2 unique keywords (don’t repeat keywords throughout your site, unless it is location specific) to give your website increased opportunities to rank in search engine results for varying keywords and phrases.

Once you have your list of researched keywords, you need then need to place them:

  • Once in your web page URL
  • Once in your meta description (only for user purposes, not search engine purposes)
  • In your Headings (H1, H2, H3)
  • In your first paragraph within the page, and 2-3 times as variations within the rest of the body copy – just make sure that your copy is still relevant to the visitor, and reads sensibly.
  • In the ‘Alt Attribute’ in your images and video’s (via YouTube or Vimeo)

When placing keywords remember to always think of your visitors first, and search engines second – as you don’t want to risk a potential conversion due to awkward copy either!

3. Send your fans to your website

As mentioned above, one of the key influencers of search engine rankings is social authority. If you are active on social media, and receive loads of visitation to your website from social media accounts, Google will reward you with higher search engine rankings.

So, make sure that you house as much shareable content on your website, and refer your likers to visit your website to view the content!


Remember, there are absolutely no guarantee that any SEO tactics we implement will increase our search engine rankings. There is however, a guarantee that your website will rank poorly if you do not attempt anything!


Is blogging important for SEO? If so, why?

Absolutely. Blogging is an essential component of an SEO strategy, as with each new blog post you are creating a new page in your website, and giving your business a new opportunity to be found in search engine results. The key to writing your blogs is to optimise each post for researched, relevant keywords to your product or service offering. You may even like to write an article which focusses on a keyword that may target a completely different audience in attempt to gain visitation from people looking for a complimentary product/service.

For example: If you were a florist, then you may like to write a post about wedding venues in your local area. Still on topic, but you may get visitors looking for wedding venues, which would also be looking for wedding florists too.

Over time, you will build a site which is content rich, and optimised for a large breadth of keywords and phrases that are relevant to your offering, which will strengthen your website’s position in search engine results!
